Fresnillo de las Dueñas
Village
Fresnillo de las Dueñas is a municipality of 703 inhabitants in the Ribera del Duero comarca, in the judicial district of Aranda de Duero, next to the boundary with that city and on the banks of the Duero. Its surname recalls that, in the 12th century, around 1154, the residents moved next to the quarters of the Premonstratensian nuns settled in the Ribera by the monks of La Vid, although the name Fresnillo, meaning white dittany, already existed before then. In 1447, under John II, the hamlet became a town by order of the monastery of La Vid, and it gained independence by being incorporated into the crown in 1555. Its church, begun in Romanesque style and finished in Gothic in 1517, holds an altarpiece with the four evangelists.
