Torregalindo
Village
Torregalindo is a municipality of 130 inhabitants in the Ribera del Duero comarca, in the province of Burgos, bathed by the Riaza river at an altitude of 750 metres. Its fortress, of early medieval origin, formed part of the Riaza defensive line and belonged successively to the López de Haro family, lords of Biscay, and to the counts of Siruela; in 1479 Beltrán de la Cueva, first duke of Alburquerque, strengthened it with the circular tower it still retains, and today its ruins still dominate the valley with their sixty-metre footprint. It also preserves the Romanesque church of Saint John the Baptist. Every January it celebrates its Three Kings' cavalcade with a living nativity scene, declared a Fiesta de Interés Turístico Regional (an official regional tourist-interest designation).
