Campillo de Aranda
Village
Campillo de Aranda is a municipality of 175 inhabitants in the Ribera del Duero comarca, in the south of the province of Burgos, at 908 metres of altitude, 88 km from Burgos and 8 from Aranda de Duero. It belonged to the former jurisdiction of Torregalindo, a manorial lordship of the Duke of Siruelo, who appointed its mayor. Its parish church of the Asunción de Nuestra Señora, of the Roa archpriestship, also serves neighbouring Torregalindo. During the festivities of the Virgin of the Assumption and San Roque, in August, the young people build a large whale out of sacks, paper, rope and paint, which is burned on the last night and jumped over by the villagers, recalling a drunkard who mistook for a whale a saddle sunk in the pond of El Navajo.
