Fuentelisendo
Village
Fuentelisendo is a municipality in the wine-growing Ribera del Duero comarca, next to the Páramo de Corcos, in the province of Burgos, with 96 inhabitants and an economy based on dry farming and vineyards. Its name comes from the old "Fuente Lisendro", itself derived from "Font Alesandro", and refers to the stone fountain with two round arches and a Romanesque appearance that gives the village its name and coat of arms; with thirteen letters, it is one of the Spanish municipalities with the longest single-word names. Its history is tied to the Comunidad de Villa y Tierra de Aza, formed around the year 912 after the so-called Duero leap of the Castilian count Gonzalo Fernández, and Fuentelisendo came to be, together with Hoyales, one of the villages exempted from that community, with its own lordship. Its Baroque church of San Pedro ad Víncula preserves a fluted Romanesque baptismal font.
