La Cueva de Roa
Village
La Cueva de Roa is a hamlet of 82 inhabitants which, in 1143, when Alfonso VII granted the fuero of Sepúlveda, was counted among the 33 hamlets of the nascent Community of Villa and Tierra of Roa. Then known simply as La Cueva, it was a lordship of the Count of Siruela, who appointed its local deputy mayor. In the mid-19th century it had about 50 houses. Its municipal area, of twelve square kilometres, borders Roa to the north and east, San Martín de Rubiales and Mambrilla de Castrejón to the west, and Nava de Roa and the exclave of Haza known as Montenuevo to the south.
