Susinos del Páramo
Village
Susinos del Páramo is a municipality in the province of Burgos, in the Odra-Pisuerga district, set at 905 metres on a plateau with an extreme climate, with temperatures dropping below 14 degrees below zero in winter and rising to 40 in summer. According to the Burgos historians Father Flórez and Fray Justo Pérez de Urbel, the place was first called Páramo, and it was the Arabs who renamed it Susinos, “among the lilies”, when they introduced flax cultivation, amid whose fields abundant lilies bloomed; from this also comes the name linares. The weaving-loom industry came to flourish greatly, with a loom in almost every family, and the village preserves the building of a former convent where, according to Flórez, there were Poor Clare nuns. It now has 115 inhabitants.
