Villanueva de Argaño
Village
Villanueva de Argaño is a municipality of 117 inhabitants in the Odra-Pisuerga district, in the province of Burgos, beside the A-231 motorway or Camino de Santiago, at kilometre point 145. Through its territory runs the old Roman road Ab Asturica Burdigalam, known in the Middle Ages as the Vía Aquitania and today restored as a pilgrim route. It belonged to the estate of the Manrique family as early as the division of property in 1362, confirmed in 1416. Its patronal feasts are the Patrocinio de San José, the third Sunday after Easter, and it also celebrates a matanza (pig-slaughter) festival on Holy Saturday.
