Pedrosa de Río Úrbel
Village
Pedrosa de Río Úrbel is a municipality in the Alfoz de Burgos district, bathed by the river Úrbel, which brings together, besides the capital, Lodoso, Marmellar de Abajo and San Pedro Samuel; the monk and historian Fray Justo Pérez de Urbel was born here in 1895. With 262 inhabitants, its church of Santa Juliana, built mainly between 1500 and 1575, is one of the earliest examples of hall-church plan in the province, covered with tierceron and star-ribbed vaults; the main doorway displays Plateresque decoration of grotesques, cherubs and cornucopias, and the Baroque main altarpiece holds the image of the patroness.
