Tobar
Village
Tobar is a hamlet in the Odra-Pisuerga district, in the province of Burgos, with 27 inhabitants, situated some 35 kilometres northwest of the provincial capital, between Pedrosa del Páramo, Manciles and Susinos del Páramo, in a valley run through from north to south by the Hormazuela river. Its economy is based on dry farming, mainly wheat and barley, on land that is limestone but fertile. It appeared as Tovar in the 1787 Censo de Floridablanca, under the seigneurial jurisdiction of the duke of the Infantado, who appointed its ordinary mayor. From here the Tovar lineage took its name, to which belonged the High Admiral of Castile Fernán Sánchez de Tovar, who in 1377 received from Henry II the supreme command of the Castilian fleet.
