Pedrosa del Páramo
Village
Pedrosa del Páramo is a municipality of 88 inhabitants in the Odra-Pisuerga district, in the province of Burgos, set on a flat plateau given over almost entirely to cereal farming, with very little woodland. According to Enrique Flórez, the village may have been founded around 1100 by the bishop of Sasamón, Pedro Paramón, a native of the deserted settlement of Villaux, 1.5 kilometres from Pedrosa, whose origin goes back to the Early Middle Ages and which is already recorded in a document of 1121-1124. Tradition places his tomb there, and in 1963 a plaque was placed in the hermitage of Villaux to commemorate him. The church of San Pedro Advíncula, with star-ribbed vaults, holds a main altarpiece completed in 1590 by the sculptor García de Arredondo, and on the edge of the plateau stands the hermitage of the Cristo de Villaux.
