What to see and do in Valdivielso

Valdivielso
Village
The valle de Valdivielso is a stretch of the Ebro in northern Burgos, hemmed in between the sierra de la Tesla to the north, that of Tudanca to the west and the last foothills of La Lora to the south. Administratively it forms the Merindad de Valdivielso, which brings together fourteen riverside villages under a single town hall at Quecedo, among them Valdenoceda, El Almiñé and Puente-Arenas. In the damp areas grow box, strawberry tree, holly, oak and some yews, while in the dry areas holm oaks, junipers and Portuguese oaks predominate; the fauna includes wild boar, roe deer, vultures and eagles, although the wolf disappeared from the valley in the mid-20th century. Beside Puente-Arenas stands San Pedro de Tejada, the summit of Romanesque architecture in Burgos.
Church of San Nicolás de El Almiñé
Monument
The church of San Nicolás de Bari, in El Almiñé, one of the fourteen villages of the Merindad de Valdivielso grouped under the mayoralty of Quecedo, is a Romanesque-style church declared a national historic-artistic monument on 16 March 1983, by royal decree signed by King Juan Carlos I and the Minister of Culture Javier Solana; it now holds the status of a Bien de Interés Cultural (Spain's highest level of heritage protection). Its Renaissance altarpiece was restored between the late 20th and early 21st centuries in Burgos. With its bell-gable and medieval fabric, it is part of the string of churches that make Valdivielso, the Ebro valley flanked by the sierras of La Tesla and Tudanca, one of the most monumental areas of northern Burgos.
