What to see and do in Quintanaopio

Quintanaopio
Village
Quintanaopio is a minor local entity of the municipality of Aguas Cándidas, in the valley of las Caderechas, comarca of La Bureba, province of Burgos, with sixteen residents on a promontory overlooking the vega, where the river Vadillo and the Ojeda stream meet to form the river Caderechano, a tributary of the Homino and, in turn, of the Ebro. On its municipal area stand three peaks of the valley: El Mazo, the Castilviejo peak and the Sierra de Tablones. It played a leading role in the founding of the monastery of Oña in 1011, since its seigneurial rights belonged to Count Sancho García, who used them to endow it; it was part of the Alfoz de Poza from the late 9th century and, from the 12th, of the Merindad de Bureba. It preserves the church of the Assumption of Nuestra Señora.
