Church of San Nicolás de El Almiñé Monument · Valdivielso, Las Merindades, Burgos The church of San Nicolás de Bari, in El Almiñé, one of the fourteen villages of the Merindad de Valdivielso grouped under the mayoralty of Quecedo, is a Romanesque-style church declared a national historic-artistic monument on 16 March 1983, by royal decree signed by King Juan Carlos I and the Minister of Culture Javier Solana; it now holds the status of a Bien de Interés Cultural (Spain's highest level of heritage protection). Its Renaissance altarpiece was restored between the late 20th and early 21st centuries in Burgos. With its bell-gable and medieval fabric, it is part of the string of churches that make Valdivielso, the Ebro valley flanked by the sierras of La Tesla and Tudanca, one of the most monumental areas of northern Burgos.
