Aguas Cándidas
Village
Aguas Cándidas, a municipality of 61 inhabitants in the Caderechas valley, in the Burgos comarca of La Bureba, is made up of three minor local entities: the capital, Quintanaopio and Río Quintanilla. In the Middle Ages it belonged to the cuadrilla de Caderechas, one of the seven into which the Merindad de Bureba was divided, under crown jurisdiction with a local deputy mayor; when the Ancien Régime fell it became a municipality, with barely 48 inhabitants. Almost a third of its municipal area, some 576 hectares, lies within the Sierra de la Tesla-Valdivielso Special Protection Area for Birds, a refuge for griffon vulture, hen harrier, Egyptian vulture and red-billed chough. Its parish church, dedicated to San Juan Bautista, is a dependency of the parish of Poza de la Sal.
