Rabé de las Calzadas
Village
Rabé de las Calzadas is a village in the Alfoz de Burgos district, with 259 inhabitants, situated on the French Way of the Camino de Santiago. Its name may recall the numerous Roman roads that crossed its territory, although it has also been linked to the name of some medieval resettler. On 20 February 1085 King Alfonso VI granted the village to the Hospital del Emperador of Burgos, and in 1128 Alfonso VII handed this hospital, with all its possessions, to the see of Burgos, whose bishops and archbishops have held its ownership ever since. In the mid-19th century it had 282 inhabitants. It preserves a church under the invocation of Santa Marina.
