Las Quintanillas
Village
Las Quintanillas is a municipality of 386 inhabitants fourteen kilometres from Burgos, in the Alfoz de Burgos comarca, through whose territory runs the río Úrbel and through which once passed the Roman road linking Astorga with Bordeaux, today part of the Way of St James. Besides the capital, it comprises the settlements of Santa María Tajadura and Villarmentero, over a territory of nearly twenty-five square kilometres. The town centre sits on a gentle slope beside the N-120 road, with the church of San Primitivo y San Facundo and the town hall at its centre, and, on the other side of the road, the Portugalete quarter, presided over by the hermitage of the Virgen de la O. Stone rubblework from the moorland predominates, with ashlar masonry at the head of the municipality.
