Sotragero
Village
Sotragero is a municipality in the Alfoz de Burgos district, with a territory of barely 5.49 km², making it one of the most densely populated in the alfoz. Thanks to its proximity to the capital, of which it is today largely a residential village, it has, since the early 21st century, recovered the population it had lost since the 1970s, reaching a peak of 302 inhabitants in 2013; today it has around 300. It keeps its Holy Week processions alive: on Good Friday the items to be carried in procession are auctioned among the residents, such as the image of Christ, the lanterns and the green cross, while the falls are re-enacted and the calvary is sung, and on Easter Sunday the Procession of the Encounter takes place, in which residents kiss the images before removing the Virgin's mourning veil.
