What to see and do in Marjaliza

Marjaliza
Village
Marjaliza is a municipality in the comarca of Montes de Toledo, one of the highest-altitude settlements in the comarca, at the foot of the Cerro de San Cristóbal. Local tradition places here the martyrdom of Saint Quiteria in the early 2nd century, buried on the outskirts of the settlement, where the hermitage dedicated to the patron saint now stands, the centre of major festivities with a procession and religious events. It was a Muslim alquería before Ferdinand III sold Los Montes to the city of Toledo in 1246, which gave rise to numerous lawsuits over the exploitation of the woodlands. During the first Carlist War, the town hall and the parish church were burned down. It has 258 inhabitants (INE 2025).
