What to see and do in Villaminaya

Villaminaya
Village
Villaminaya is a municipality in the Montes de Toledo comarca, with 518 inhabitants, whose name, already documented in 1211 as "Villa Minaya," comes from Basque and means pasture. Of Hispano-Roman origin, it kept a Mozarab population during the Muslim domination; the first written record, from 1211, describes it as an alquería of the Sisla comarca, and a document of 1576 already cites it as a hamlet of Toledo. It belongs to the judicial district of Orgaz and depends, for secondary schooling and healthcare, on nearby Mora. Its parish church is dedicated to santo Domingo de Silos, patron of the municipality, celebrated on 20 December; the Virgen de las Angustias, co-patroness, completes its calendar on the third weekend of September, with a procession.
