Huérmeces del Cerro
Village
Huérmeces del Cerro is a municipality in the northern sierra of Guadalajara, in the valley of the Salado river, a tributary of the Henares, with 43 inhabitants (INE 2025). After the Castilian conquest it belonged to the community of villa y tierra of Atienza and later to the lordship of Jadraque, and it attained the title of villa; until the 1916 reform it was simply called Huérmeces. It preserves the remains of the Torre del Lutuero, destroyed in 1059 by the troops of Ferdinand I when they temporarily conquered Santiuste and Santamera from the taifa of Toledo, a Baroque church dedicated to Santa María Magdalena, and the hermitages of la Soledad and San Roque. A colony of vultures nests on the cliffs of the Salado, and the village lies on the Ruta de la Lana (Wool Route), between Viana de Jadraque and Santiuste.
