Santiuste
Village
Santiuste is a municipality of the Serranía de Guadalajara situated in the Sierra Norte, near Atienza, Jadraque and Sigüenza, on the Ruta de la Lana between Huérmeces del Cerro and Riofrío del Llano, on the banks of the río Regacho and very close to the El Atance reservoir; it also lies on the Camino del Cid. It has 15 inhabitants, compared with the 100 it had in the mid-19th century. It preserves the Romanesque church of la Transfiguración del Señor, an ethnographic museum and a traditional forge, as well as a fountain in the centre of the village. It celebrates its festivities in the last week of July in honour of San Salvador, with a traditional breakfast on the last Sunday when chocolate with churros and sweets made by residents for the festival contests are handed out.
