What to see and do in Galve de Sorbe

Galve de Sorbe
Village
Galve de Sorbe is a municipality in the Serranía de Guadalajara district, with 97 inhabitants (INE 2025), compared with the 1,079 it had in the mid-19th century; until the 1916 gazetteer reform the municipality was simply called Galve. Tradition holds that the place-name comes from the name of an Arab general of Caliph Abderramán III, Galbi ben Amril, and on the site of the present 15th-century castle there had earlier been an Arab fortress. The town is recorded in documents from 1136 and was bought in 1403 by Admiral Diego Hurtado de Mendoza and Chief Justice Diego López de Estúñiga; the castle that dominates the village was later built by the House of Zúñiga over that earlier fortification.
