What to see and do in Cantalojas

Cantalojas
Village
A municipality in the Serranía de Guadalajara district, located in the Sierra Norte, 95 kilometres from the provincial capital and at an altitude of 1,315 metres, watered by the Lillas and Zarzas rivers, which downstream narrow into a gorge and become known as the río de La Hoz, a tributary of the Sorbe. Part of its municipal area lies within the Sierra Norte natural park and holds the beech forest of Tejera Negra, one of the southernmost in Europe. After the Reconquest it belonged to the Comunidad de Villa y Tierra de Ayllón, and in 1833 it passed from Segovia to Guadalajara. Every 12 October it hosts the busiest livestock fair in the province, with trading in cattle, sheep and goats and stalls of sierra produce, which closes the pastoral calendar of the villages around Ocejón and the Sorbe.
