What to see and do in Albendiego

Albendiego
Village
Municipality of the comarca of Serranía de Guadalajara, in the province of Guadalajara, whose chapel of Santa Coloma, beside the river Bornova, closes its Romanesque apse end with three windows of pierced Mudéjar tracery screens without parallel in the range; the hamlet was one of the 131 of the alfoz, the jurisdictional district, of Atienza granted a fuero by Alfonso VII in 1149.
The lattice windows of Santa Coloma
Historical milestone
The hermitage of Santa Coloma, on the right bank of the río del Manadero and next to its confluence with the Valdecobas stream, closes its Romanesque chancel with three windows of pierced lattice-work in Mudéjar tracery, unmatched in the sierra; it retains eight more in the side apses, though some of these have been removed. Built in the 12th century and extended in the 15th, it was declared a Bien de Interés Cultural (Spain's highest level of heritage protection) in 1965 and forms part of the monumental ensemble of rural Romanesque architecture in Guadalajara. The village was one of the 131 within the jurisdiction of Atienza chartered by Alfonso VII in 1149.
