What to see and do in Campillo de Ranas

Campillo de Ranas
Village
Campillo de Ranas is a municipality in the Serranía de Guadalajara and a benchmark of black slate architecture, within the Sierra Norte Natural Park and at the foot of Mount Ocejón, one of the highest peaks in the province; nearby are two of the southernmost beech forests in Europe, that of Montejo de la Sierra and that of la Tejera Negra. It groups together the settlements of Campillejo, El Espinar, Matallana, Roblelacasa, Robleluengo, La Vereda and El Vado, the last three depopulated after the forced expropriation of 1972 for forest replanting, which partly submerged El Vado beneath the reservoir of the same name. Since 1988 the Asociación Cultural Hijos de la Vereda, made up of former residents and their descendants, has organised the festivals of San Pedro, San Juan and la Inmaculada. It has 150 inhabitants.
