Valdesotos
Village
Valdesotos is a municipality in the northern mountains of Guadalajara, situated at 844 metres of altitude beside the river Jarama, whose population has fallen from the 128 inhabitants and 40 houses it had in the mid-19th century to the 35 recorded by the INE in 2025. Its parish church, dedicated to Santa Catalina Virgen y Mártir, was built in the 16th century on a structure of Romanesque origin. On the left bank of the Jarama, inside a small cave, lies the Jarama II archaeological site, with human remains, fauna and lithic industry from the Magdalenian period; and as natural heritage, El Chorro stands out, a natural pool formed in the Gazachuela stream.
