Tamajón
Village
Tamajón is a municipality in the Serranía de Guadalajara, with 153 inhabitants and 116.28 km², which includes the hamlets of Almiruete, Palancares and Muriel, absorbed in 1970, and the abandoned settlement of Sacedoncillo. The village stands at 1,026 metres; within its municipal area is the Ciudad Encantada de Tamajón, limestone rocks shaped by erosion, and the Cueva de los Torrejones, with the remains of a Pleistocene leopard. In the mid-19th century it had 486 inhabitants. It preserves the 16th-century church of la Asunción; the Palacio de los Mendoza, today the town hall; and, two kilometres away, the Ermita de la Virgen de los Enebrales, patron saint of the town. Its own named dish is the hornazo, a bread pie filled with pork loin, ham and chorizo that is handed out during the spring festivities.
