Ujados
Village
Ujados is a municipality in the northern mountains of Guadalajara, situated at 1,152 metres of altitude at the foot of the Muela de Somolinos, which rises some 300 metres above the village and on whose plateaus cardoon mushrooms (Pleurotus eryngii) grow in abundance. Within its municipal area are the Cuevas del Mingolario, dug into the sandstone, and La Fuente, a place of leisure and gathering for the residents. Here in 1867 the sculptor Gaspar de la Cruz Martín was born, the village's most notable figure, who died young in 1909; it was also the birthplace of the sculptor Miguel de la Cruz Martín. The village celebrates its festivities in the week of 15 August, with musical and gastronomic activities, and the Virgen del Rosario on 7 October, with a communal meal and procession. It has 20 inhabitants (2025).
