What to see and do in Maranchón

Maranchón
Village
Maranchón, in the Señorío de Molina (Guadalajara), brings together the settlements of Balbacil, Clares, Codes, Maranchón and Turmiel, with 225 inhabitants (2025). It sits at 1,254 m above sea level in the Sistema Ibérico, on the south side of the sierra de Solorio, within the Molina de Aragón-Alto Tajo Geopark and just 15 km from the Alto Tajo nature reserve; its savin woodland and the surrounding páramos are protected under the Natura 2000 network. In the 19th century its residents lived from trading mules, wax and soap across the interior of the peninsula, with their own jargon for closing deals, which a fair held every July has re-enacted since 2019; at the feast of San Pascual Bailón, with a procession of regional costumes, dulzaina and tambourine, secajos are handed out, a sweet made in the local ovens.
The mule traders
Historical milestone
In the nineteenth century a good part of the residents lived on the trade in mules, wax and soap through the interior of the Peninsula, with a jargon of their own for closing deals. Since 2019 a July fair recreates those sales of mule stock.
Secajos
Food and drink
Traditional dry sweet that is handed out among the residents at the festivity of San Pascual Bailón, when the procession goes round the town with regional costumes, dulzaina and drum. It is made in the town's ovens for that date in the calendar.
