Anquela del Ducado
Village
Anquela del Ducado is a municipality of Señorío de Molina, in Guadalajara, with 46 inhabitants — including the hamlet of Tobillos — situated beside the río Mesa and beneath the 1,400-metre Guijo peak, the highest point in the municipal area. From the 12th century, after the Reconquista, it belonged to the Común de Villa y Tierra de Medinaceli, and from the 15th century it came under the lordship of the La Cerda family, dukes of Medinaceli, marking the eastern boundary of the duchy with Molina; its coat of arms recalls this past with the fleurs-de-lis of the Medinaceli. Its parish church of the Virgen de la Asunción was built in 1600 and the hermitage of the Virgen del Montesino in 1512, the destination of a pilgrimage on the third weekend of May; the feast of San Martín is celebrated on the third Sunday of September.
