Establés
Village
Establés is a municipality in the comarca of Señorío de Molina, in the province of Guadalajara, with 35 inhabitants, compared with 492 in the mid-19th century. Its strategic position, on the route rising from Aragon along the río Mesa towards the centre of the señorío, meant that a watchtower, the torre de Chilluentes, was already built here in the 12th century, part of Molina's defensive line. In the 15th century the place was conquered by Gastón de la Cerda, count of Medinaceli, who in 1450 had the castle of Malasombra built, entrusted to Gabriel de Ureña, whose cruelty gave the fortress its name. Its parish church dates from the 16th century and the festivities of the Asunción are held in mid-August.
