Anguita
Village
Anguita is a municipality in the comarca of Señorío de Molina, in the province of Guadalajara, with 150 inhabitants (2025) across 127.19 km², also made up of the hamlets of Aguilar de Anguita, Santa María del Espino, Padilla del Ducado and Villarejo de Medina. It looks over the río Tajuña, near the Alto Tajo nature reserve. With the Reconquista it was placed within the Común de Villa y Tierra de Medinaceli; according to tradition, El Cid spent a night here on his way to Valencia, which is why the village, then called Cuevas de Anguita, is mentioned in the Cantar de Mío Cid. Its municipal area contains the Portillo de las Cortes dolmen and the Celtiberian hillfort of Hocincavero, and the pilgrimage of Nuestra Señora de la Lastra is held on the first weekend of October.
