Alcolea del Pinar
Village
Alcolea del Pinar is a municipality of the Señorío de Molina comarca, in the north of the province of Guadalajara, on the boundary with Soria and 78 km from the provincial capital. The municipal area, which besides the main town includes the settlements of Cortes de Tajuña, Garbajosa, Tortonda and Villaverde del Ducado, has 357 inhabitants (INE 2025), compared with 279 in the mid-19th century. It is located at 1,203 metres altitude, next to the Alcolea del Pinar pass, a natural passage through the sierra Ministra that separates the basin of the Tagus from those of the Duero and the Ebro. It is known for the Casa de Piedra, which a local resident, Lino Bueno, dug by hand into a sandstone outcrop from 1907 onwards: it took him seventeen years to hollow out rooms, a stable and a cellar, and the result is today the site's most visited curiosity.
