What to see and do in Quer

Quer
Village
Quer is a municipality of the La Campiña comarca, in the province of Guadalajara, located 13 km from the capital and at 706 metres altitude, with a flat municipal area crossed by streams tributary to the Henares with black poplar groves; it has 1,080 inhabitants (INE 2025). In the mid-19th century it had 261 inhabitants, a figure that remained stable around 250 until 1940, before falling to a minimum of 76 in 2001; since then it has grown strongly thanks to the development of new residential developments, such as Miravalles and Los Enebros, which today coexist with the old centre. Its parish church is dedicated to Santa María la Blanca, and historical documents recall two other hermitages now vanished, those of La Soledad and Santa María Magdalena.
Church of Santa María la Blanca de Quer
Monument
The parish church of Santa María la Blanca de Quer, the municipality's main historic building, was known in the mid-19th century as Nuestra Señora la Blanca; served then by a priest and a sexton, it held the status of mother church of the parish of Azuqueca, to which it was ecclesiastically linked.
The poplar groves of Quer
Nature
The poplar groves of Quer are riverside stands of black poplar linked to the streams tributary to the Henares that cross the flat municipal area, in La Campiña (Guadalajara). Already in 1849 the Diccionario geográfico by Pascual Madoz recorded the existence of two black poplar groves within the municipality, beside a fountain of good water and the hermitages of La Soledad and Santa María Magdalena.
The vanished hermitages of Quer
Curiosity
Historical documents record the existence, within the municipality of Quer (Guadalajara), of two hermitages now vanished, those of La Soledad and Santa María Magdalena. The most specific reference comes from Pascual Madoz's geographical dictionary, of 1849, which cites them alongside the fountains and poplar groves of the municipality, with no further details on when they were built or disappeared.
