What to see and do in Valdeavero

Valdeavero
Village
Valdeavero is a village of the Community of Madrid, on the border with the province of Guadalajara, with about 1,900 inhabitants in a flat and fertile district of 18.8 square kilometres watered by the streams of La Marcuera, La Camarmilla and La Royada. Its name is interpreted as valley of the birds. A Roman funerary inscription from the 2nd century confirms the Roman presence in the area; reconquered by Álvar Fáñez, the town was granted by Alfonso VI to Count García Ordóñez, and in 1174 it passed in part to the Monastery of La Vid, in whose hands it remained until 1311, when it fell under the control of the nuns of Santa Clara de Guadalajara. It obtained the status of villazgo under Philip II and preserves the Baroque church of the Assumption, the Renaissance hermitage of the Immaculate Conception and the Palacio de Campoflorido.

Activity
On 14 September the village honours the Santísimo Cristo del Sudor with mass, a procession and popular events. On 20 January it repeats the celebration with San Sebastián: these are the two dates that order Valdeavero's festive calendar.
