Hueva
Village
Hueva is a municipality of the comarca of La Alcarria, in the province of Guadalajara, 7 kilometres from Pastrana. Originally called Ova, it was reconquered from the Muslims in 1124, during the reign of Alfonso VII, and in 1175 Alfonso VIII granted it to the Order of Calatrava, which built a castle there and was lord of the town until well into the 16th century. Its parish church of Nuestra Señora de la Zarza dates from the 14th century and was rebuilt in the 18th; its slightly leaning tower was mentioned by Camilo José Cela in Viaje a la Alcarria. It also preserves a 16th-century pillory, the manor house of the counts of Zanoni and the ruins of the castle of Juan Sánchez, and celebrates its festival on 14 September in honour of the Santísimo Cristo de la Fe. It has 113 inhabitants.
