Alocén
Village
A municipality of La Alcarria, in the province of Guadalajara, of Andalusi origin, conquered by the Order of the Temple in the late 11th century, overlooking the Entrepeñas reservoir on the Tagus. Its square, a viewpoint over the reservoir, and its streets won it the prize for the beautification of Spain's villages in 1981. The church of la Asunción, from the 13th to 16th centuries, has a single nave and preserves Baroque altars and an 18th-century organ; the town centre also retains the pillory of justice and the hermitages of la Soledad, where the Holy Week floats are kept, Santa Ana and San Juan Bautista. The building of the reservoir flooded orchards and the railway station that linked Alocén with Madrid, and since then the municipality, with no school or services of its own, has barely 151 inhabitants (INE, 2025).
