Pareja
Village
Pareja is a municipality in the comarca of La Alcarria, in the province of Guadalajara, overlooking the Entrepeñas reservoir and made up of the settlements of Casasana, Cereceda, Hontanillas and Tabladillo; it has 493 inhabitants (2025). In 1156 King Alfonso VII donated the town and its hamlets to the bishop of Sigüenza, and in 1198 Alfonso VIII gave it in perpetuity to the bishopric of Cuenca, whose bishops chose it as a residence for long periods and held episcopal synods there. It enjoyed royal privileges such as tax exemption for its residents and a large spring trade fair. It retains the church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción, built in the 16th century, remains of a fortified tower and walled precinct, and the ermita de los Remedios, whose feast day is celebrated on 8 September.
