What to see and do in Lucena de Jalón

Lucena de Jalón
Village
Lucena de Jalón, in the comarca of Valdejalón, at 324 metres above sea level, includes the rural district of Berbedel and has 223 inhabitants (INE 2025). On 1 September 1206 the Hospitallers received the castle and the town in commandery; it later passed through different lords: in 1276 it belonged to Jimeno de Urrea, and on 14 October 1348 Peter IV of Aragon gave the house of Lucena to Fernando Gómez de Albornoz. Before its present name, the town was called Bellestar, Sobrecullida de Tarazona, Vereda de Tarazona and Corregimiento de Zaragoza, until in 1920 the name Lucena de Jalón was fixed. It preserves the church of San Antonio de Padua, from the 16th century, a dedication the parish already held in the 17th century, when it depended on the Bishopric of Zaragoza.
