What to see and do in Lumpiaque

Lumpiaque
Village
Lumpiaque is a municipality of Zaragoza province in the comarca of Valdejalón, at 310 metres above sea level, next to the Jalón river. In 1275 the first written record of the town appears, with the donation of its castle by James I to Martín Ortiz de Azagra; from 1480 its lordship fell without interruption to the Urrea family, later counts of Aranda, who in 1482 ceded the use of the village pond to their Moorish aljama. In the 16th century the Mudejar bell tower of the church of San Francisco de Asís was raised at the foot of the temple, today listed as World Heritage within the Aragonese Mudejar; in the 17th century the hermitage of Santa Bárbara was added. Since the second half of the 19th century the village experienced notable demographic growth as cereal crops were replaced by sugar beet.
