What to see and do in Alpartir

Alpartir
Village
Alpartir is a municipality in the comarca of Valdejalón, in the province of Zaragoza, situated at 490 metres above sea level in the Sierra de Algairén, with 599 inhabitants. After its conquest, Alfonso I handed it over to the Order of Saint John of Jerusalem, which incorporated it together with Cabañas and Ricla into the Commandery of the Jalón; Master Pedro López de Luna granted Alpartir its founding charter in 1178. It preserves the Renaissance church of Nuestra Señora de los Ángeles, from the 16th century, with a single nave, side chapels between buttresses and a polygonal apse of five sides. During the Civil War, the potter brothers Teófilo and Dionisio del Val Algarate, who had fled into the hills, were executed and buried in a mass grave in the Barranco de la Tejera, exhumed in 2023.
