What to see and do in Santa Cruz de Grío

Santa Cruz de Grío
Village
Santa Cruz de Grío is a municipality of 95 inhabitants in Valdejalón, in Zaragoza, at 712 metres above sea level on the foothills of the Sierra de Vicort and in the valley of the Grío river. Conquered by Alfonso I the Battler in 1120, the area passed to the Order of the Holy Sepulchre within the priory of Calatayud until modern times; with Javier de Burgos's reforms in the 19th century it was constituted as a municipality, first called Santa Cruz, then Santa Cruz de Tobed, until it adopted its present name in 1900. Its population, which reached its peak around 1920, has since suffered a sharp decline. The pseudo-baroque parish church of San Blas was built in 1912 and preserves a 16th-century bust of the saint, which is carried in procession from 3 to 5 February.
