What to see and do in Los Fayos

Los Fayos
Village
Los Fayos is a small municipality of 135 inhabitants at the foot of the Moncayo, in Zaragoza, at 569 metres above sea level and only 6 km from Tarazona. Its name is the archaic form of “Los Fallos,” after the tectonic phenomena that formed the rocky crag that shelters it, pierced by caves inhabited since prehistoric times; the largest, the Cueva de Caco, probably served as a medieval military shelter and preserves traces of three floors and a hydraulic system with a cistern. The village nestles beneath this crag, at the confluence of the Val and Queiles rivers, where in 1996 the Val reservoir, with a dam 96 metres high, was completed. It preserves the church of Santa María Magdalena, from the late 16th century, the hermitage of San Benito, partly carved into the rock, and the palace of the Dukes of Villahermosa, from the 17th century.
