What to see and do in Luesia

Luesia
Village
Luesia is a town in the comarca of the Cinco Villas, in the north-west of the province of Zaragoza, 104 km from the capital, set at the foot of the sierra de Santo Domingo and on the banks of the river Arba de Luesia. Its name is documented in Arabic sources as Ḥiṣn Luwassa, «castle of Luesia», and in 938 it appears for the first time in a charter of the monastery of Leyre as Lusia, although it had already been conquered by the Christians between 905 and 911, under Sancho Garcés I of Pamplona. In the 10th century the castle was strengthened and the monastery enlarged, over the ruins of the Corral del Calvo dating from the 5th century. A town since 1124 by resettlement charter of Alfonso I, it preserves the Romanesque church of San Salvador (11th-13th centuries) and the castle of Luesia (10th-16th centuries), at 810 metres of altitude.
