What to see and do in Asín

Asín
Village
Asín is a municipality in the Cinco Villas region, in Zaragoza, with barely 88 inhabitants over 18.4 square kilometres, crossed from north to south by the Farasdués river. In 1132 it obtained its first charter (fuero) from Alfonso I the Battler, confirmed in 1320 by James II of Aragon; in 1425 an arbitration ruling by Alfonso V forced its lords to sell the place to the archbishopric of Zaragoza for 22,500 sueldos. It preserves the Romanesque church of Santa María del Rosario. Its festivals are spread through the year: San Gregorio on 9 May, the main festival between 15 and 18 August, San Román on 18 November and the pilgrimage of the Virgen del Campo on Pentecost.
Church of Asín
Monument
Church of Santa María del Rosario, in Asín (Cinco Villas), a Romanesque building from the late 12th and early 13th centuries declared a Bien de Interés Cultural (Spain's highest level of heritage protection) in 2001. It has a single nave covered by a barrel vault and a semicircular apse; in the 16th century two chapels were added on either side of the first bay of the nave and a structure at the foot serving as a sacristy. The fabric is of well-squared ashlar on the walls and stone slabs on the roofs, with very sober exterior decoration except for the south portal, formed by three archivolts and a tympanum with a chrismon. Inside it preserves Gothic mural painting in the apse semi-dome; the roofs have been fully restored.
