What to see and do in Villar de los Navarros

Villar de los Navarros
Village
Villar de los Navarros is a municipality in the Campo de Daroca, in the province of Zaragoza, situated on the left bank of the río Cámaras, a tributary of the Aguasvivas which is itself a tributary of the Ebro, halfway between Daroca and Belchite and at 867 metres above sea level. On 24 August 1837 the Carlist army of the Royal Expedition defeated the liberal troops here, taking more than two thousand prisoners. It preserves the parish church of San Pedro Apóstol, a 16th-century Mudéjar building, declared a Bien de Interés Cultural (Spain's highest level of heritage protection) and included among the Aragonese Mudéjar works that are a World Heritage Site. Its heritage is completed by the hermitages of Santa Bárbara and Santa Ana, a medieval single-arch bridge over the Cámaras, an igloo-shaped ice house and, a kilometre away, the ruins of an Iberian settlement.
