Bádenas
Village
Bádenas is a small municipality in the Jiloca, province of Teruel, with 28 inhabitants and situated at 998 metres above sea level, beside the Cámaras river, in the Iberian System. In 1248, by privilege of James I, it broke away from Daroca and joined the Sesma de Trasierra of the Community of Villages of Daroca, dependent on the king, a regime that continued until 1833. The village was the birthplace of the physician Nicolás Francisco San Juan y Domingo, author of one of the first medical topographies of the Spanish Enlightenment, and of the humanist Melchor Serrano de San Nicolás (1738-1800), first rector of the Seminary of Valencia; the father of María Agustín, heroine of the sieges of Zaragoza, was also from here. It preserves a two-storey town hall with a three-arched arcade and a modern church of the Assumption, from 1958.
