Aladrén
Village
Aladrén is a small municipality of 62 inhabitants in the Campo de Cariñena, in Zaragoza, at the foot of the mountains that close off the region to the south, between the gorges of the Huerva river and the sierras del Águila, Castellanos and Herrera. The pastures of its surroundings support sheep farming of native breeds, the source of ternasco lamb, protected by a protected geographical indication since 1999. Probably founded in late Roman times, after the Christian reconquest it passed to the powerful Aragonese family of the Urrea, until in 1348 Peter IV dispossessed Juan Jiménez de Urrea after the defeat of the Union of the nobles at Épila. Earlier, in 1248, it had separated from Daroca by privilege of James I. Its inhabitants are colloquially called cazuelos, indios or aladracos.
