What to see and do in Bezas

Bezas
Village
Bezas is a municipality in the Sierra de Albarracín, in the province of Teruel, at 1,165 metres above sea level, with a municipal area of 26 km² that includes part of the Pinares de Rodeno protected landscape. Its church of the Visitación de Nuestra Señora dates from the 16th century. At the Las Tajadas site, near the village, important Levantine rock art paintings are preserved, spread across the Bajera, Enmedio and Somera shelters, as well as the Huerto and Paridera shelters. Bezas was a hamlet dependent on Albarracín, part of the Sesma de Jabaloyas within the Comunidad de Santa María de Albarracín from 1257, until it became an independent municipality in 1843.
Church of Bezas
Monument
Parish church of Bezas, located in the Protected Landscape of the Pinares de Rodeno, in the Sierra de Albarracín. It is dedicated to the Visitation of Our Lady and its construction dates back to the 16th century. By the mid-19th century it already had its own perpetual rectory, according to descriptions of the time, which gives an idea of the antiquity of its parish organisation within the municipality.
Pine Forests of Rodeno
Nature
The protected landscape of the Pinares de Rodeno is shared between the municipal districts of Albarracín, Bezas and Gea de Albarracín, in the Teruel Sierra de Albarracín, and covers 6,829 hectares between the 1,095 metres of the Tobías ravine and the 1,602 metres of the Cruz de Montoyo hill. It was the first protected area declared in the province, in 1995, and was extended in 2007. Its soil, formed on red sandstone known as rodeno, has been shaped into gorges, tafoni and potholes, and supports forests of rodeno pine accompanied by juniper, rockrose, heather and aromatic plants, with Levantine rock art declared a World Heritage Site in some of its rock shelters. Its fauna includes wild boar, roe deer and red deer, as well as birds such as the golden eagle and the peregrine falcon among the rocky outcrops.
Festivities of Bezas
