Pine Forests of Rodeno Nature · Bezas, Sierra de Albarracín, Teruel The protected landscape of the Pinares de Rodeno is shared between the municipal districts of Albarracín, Bezas and Gea de Albarracín, in the Teruel Sierra de Albarracín, and covers 6,829 hectares between the 1,095 metres of the Tobías ravine and the 1,602 metres of the Cruz de Montoyo hill. It was the first protected area declared in the province, in 1995, and was extended in 2007. Its soil, formed on red sandstone known as rodeno, has been shaped into gorges, tafoni and potholes, and supports forests of rodeno pine accompanied by juniper, rockrose, heather and aromatic plants, with Levantine rock art declared a World Heritage Site in some of its rock shelters. Its fauna includes wild boar, roe deer and red deer, as well as birds such as the golden eagle and the peregrine falcon among the rocky outcrops.
